Worn well, a good piece outlives the person who bought it. A little care goes a long way.
Everyday wear
Put your jewelry on last when you're getting ready, and take it off first at the end of the day. Perfume, hairspray, lotion, and sunscreen are harder on metal than anything else you'll encounter.
Take it off for
- Showering and swimming — chlorine and salt water dull the finish
- Sleeping — chains kink and clasps snag
- Washing up, cleaning, gardening, the gym
Sterling silver
Silver tarnishes — that's normal, not a fault. It's a reaction to air and moisture, and it comes off. Rub gently with a soft polishing cloth until the shine returns. Avoid dip-style chemical cleaners; they strip oxidized detailing and any intentional antiquing.
Gold fill & solid gold
Both are low-maintenance. Warm water, a drop of mild soap, a soft toothbrush for detailed areas, then dry thoroughly with a soft cloth. Never use abrasive polish on gold fill — it will wear through the gold layer.
Storing
Keep pieces separate so they don't scratch each other. The gift box your piece arrived in is made for the job. A small anti-tarnish strip in the box slows tarnishing considerably.
Fasten necklace clasps before storing and lay chains flat — that's what stops the knots.
Chains & clasps
Check the clasp now and then, especially on pieces you wear daily. If it feels loose or the spring is sluggish, stop wearing it and email us — a repair is cheaper than a replacement.
